Map in a Month

We began this fourth grade year with a review of basic map skills in Social Studies.  Your child has been learning about the compass rose, latitude and longitude, map scales, map symbols and keys, and different kinds of maps.  As a supplement to this unit of study, we are asking each student to complete the Map in a Month independent activity.  This is a performance-based assessment that will evaluate your child’s understanding and application of basic map skills.  Your child will be completing the assignment at home, creating his/her own map of an imaginary location of choice.  The assignment is broken down into steps so that one small piece of the map is completed each night of the week, Monday through Friday only.  All maps must be turned in by Monday, October 10th. The directions have been explained in class, and we ask that you read the assignment with your child at home as well.  If you have any questions or concerns regarding this assignment, please contact us at lpride@lindberghschools.ws and mwigger@lindberghschools.ws.

                                                                             Thank you,

Mrs. Pride and Mrs. Wigger
